A few days ago we reviewed Year one: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone from Harry Potter Years 1-5 Box Set. last night we viddied Year two: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This was the first time I had seen this movie. The first thing that stood out to me was that this was a *long* movie at almost 3 hours. Next, the increase in image quality over the Year one disc was apparent. Such quality increase can probably be attributed to improved production value in the filming.

Similar to the Sorcerer’s Stone, the audio was great. There was an improvement in the use of all 5.1 channels. The bass seemed more intent in this Episode. Additionally, I noticed that when the action was moving around the scenic center point the audio more closely followed the action than in Year one. While there was nothing that stood out about this feature on HD DVD, it was well done.

The extra features expand the movie as well. After watching two of these movies I have come to realize that the series is like Star Wars or Star Trek - you have to be a fan to appreciate the in depth features or expanded universe. That said, and the fact that I never read the books, I must say that I am not a Harry Potter fan, like my wife is. If it was not for this blog or my wife I probably would not have purchased this HD DVD. Regardless, it is a movie which takes advantage of the resolution and anudio capabilities of HD DVD. With that, I can do nothing but recommend this movie

ILHDDVD Rating 4/5 (use of HD technology is unavoidable)
Video/Image: 4/5 (what you would accept)
