HD DVD Review: King Kong

King Kong is one of those movies that looks good in both HD and SD formats. In HD however, the environment is greatly expanded by the clarity of the picture and audio. The only downside is that the image is so good that Kong, and other special effects look like special effects. 1920’s New York looks flawless, but with Kong and the dinosaurs you can clearly see that they are CGI. In the SD version the effects blend much better with the backgrounds. All in all, its a fun movie that is as exciting on your couch as it is in the theatre.
ILHDDVD Rating 4/5
Video/Image: 3/5 (HD DVD exposes the special effects - effects are less convincing in HD than in the theatre)
Audio: 4/5 (low growns, ships creaking, great job)
